It is now a biodiversity hotspot and an important habitat Island in the River Darwin wildlife corridor. The site is located to the east of Bolton Road on the outskirts of Darwen approximately 6 miles south of Blackburn. Large residential housing developments sit to the north and west of the site with an industrial estate to the south.
