Thames boathouse at Cholsey goes up for auction

A boathouse fronting one of the most popular stretches of the River Thames, at Cholsey in South Oxfordshire, is due to go up for auction this month with a guide price of £25,000.

The small, single-story building has access rights on foot via the long-distance Thames Path and a nearby track leads to road access. It is close to the former Victorian Fairmile mental hospital site, which has been redeveloped as residential accommodation and includes the 350-home Cholsey Meadows development.

Paul Thompson, managing director of Pugh, which is auctioning the boathouse, along with other land and property lots across the UK, at its online sale in May, said: “This is a perfect location for a boathouse, on a beautiful stretch of the Thames that is well used by rowing teams from both Oxford and Oxford Brooks universities. It’s surrounded by countryside, including the Cholsey Marsh nature reserve, and backs right on to the famous Thames long-distance path.

“In such a great riverside location, we believe the boathouse could also have potential for redevelopment, however that would be subject to a buyer gaining the necessary planning consents.”

Bidding on the boathouse, and the other lots in Pugh’s online auction, opens on 25 May and closes the following day. To view the full catalogue, click here.
