Six Yorkshire high street banks and a police station to go under the hammer at next Pugh auction

Former retail bank branches in Sheffield, Richmond, Barnsley, Driffield, Stokesley and Pickering will feature among over 50 lots at Pugh’s next Yorkshire and North East property auction at Leeds United’s stadium on 4 December, along with a newly closed police station.

The bank properties are being sold off for redevelopment, as part of programmes by NatWest, HSBC and RBS to close down hundreds of branches nationally. Auction house Pugh has organised the sale of 26 branches across the UK

Paul Thompson, managing director of Pugh auction house, said: “People are dramatically changing the way they access their bank’s services. As a result, our banking clients are re‐evaluating their high street assets and we are bringing quite large numbers of retail bank properties to auction.

Also included in the sale is the recently closed Elland police station, which is being sold by West Yorkshire Police. The 4,500 sq ft. station building, includes offices and a former police interview room and has a £150,000 guide price.

“The old police station is a sizeable period property in a largely residential area of Elland,” said Mr Thompson. “There is certainly scope for redevelopment and we are seeing interest from a range of potential investors.

He added: “The demand for new commercial and residential development opportunities remains constantly high and Elland is well located, close to the M62 and in the heart of West Yorkshire.”

Pugh & Co's next property auctions will take place at Elland Road Footbal ground in Leeds on 4 December and at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester on 6 December. The full catalogue for both auctions can be viewed here
