Historic Bangor butchers shop to go up for sale at auction

The home of well‐known Bangor butcher G Williams & Son has been put up for auction and is due to go under the hammer with a £75,000 guide price at Pugh's upcoming July online auction.

Known locally as ‘Johnny Six’, G Williams & Son dates back to 1870 and was famous for its homemade sausages and burgers. The business was closed in 2018 before reopening several months later, only to close for good in November last year.

The three‐storey high‐street property includes a retail area and butchery cutting room with walk‐in fridge and freezer, as well as a two‐bedroom apartment.

Edward Feather, an auctioneer and associate director at Pugh, said: “With the change in lockdown rules to allow more shops to re‐open in Wales, hopefully we will see things start to pick up for the retail sector.

“Of course Bangor’s high street is officially Wales’s longest and it has some great national and independent shops, which make this historic property an attractive prospect. Needless to say we have had strong interest from a number of potential investors.”

Pugh has continued to hold property auctions since the government introduced social distancing regulations in March by switching its operations to its existing online auction platform. Its April, May and June sales of property and land across the UK generated £7m in sales.
