Fire-ravaged home sells for £115,000, almost double its guide price, at auction

A house that was left badly damaged by fire six years ago has sold for almost double its guide price in our April online auction.

2 Bullroyd Avenue, Four Lane Ends, was listed with a £60,000 guide price. But the property smashed expectations, selling for £115,000.

The house was gutted by fire in March 2014, and has been empty ever since. At the time of the blaze the home was filled with clutter, and it took firefighters 14 hours to fully search it to discover if anyone had been trapped inside.

It was purchased by Bradford Council as part of the authority’s policy of buying up long empty homes to sell and bring back to use. Some rooms remain badly charred, with others still packed with clutter.

A condition of the sale will be that the building will have to be brought up to a liveable quality within 12 months.

It was not the only Council owned property to beat expectations at the auction. 2 Drill Street in Haworth, a three storey back to back, had a guide price of £51,000 but sold for £65,000.

And 6 Terry Street a mid terrace, one bed house in Low Moor, sold for £44,000, well above its guide price of £35,000.
