Derelict Hasligden church to go under the hammer

church in Haslingden is due to go up for auction later this month with a guide price of £115,000.

New Jerusalem Church on John Street will be sold at Pugh’s next North West property auction, at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester on October 15th.

The 4,300 square foot church, which closed several years ago and has most recently been used as a gym, was part of the Swedenborgian church movement, based on the teachings of the 18 century spiritualist Emanuel Swedenborg.

The building still contains a marble war memorial to six members of the church killed in the First World War.

Paul Thompson, managing director of auction house Pugh, said: “The former church is a very characterful building and it would be great to see it get a new lease of life and become an asset to the Haslingden community once again.

“The property could be redeveloped into stylish living or business space with an imaginative refurbishment project, subject to gaining the relevant planning consent."
