Council owned retail property sells for three times its guide price at auction

A substantial end terrace retail property owned by Warrington Council went under the virtual hammer at this week’s online auction, selling for well over its guide price.

The 5,769 St Ft property in Warrington, which requires some refurbishment and improvement works, is in a prominent location close to the town centre and adjacent to Warrington Central Station and several recent/proposed apartment schemes.

It was listed with a guide price of £95,000 and reached a final sale price of £273,000 after lots of competitive bidding.

Once bidding opened, the reserve price was met within 5 minutes, with the property receiving a total of 120 bids over the two days.

The sale was just another example of how well priced Council assets can generate strong capital returns for Councils through the online auction method.
